Big Thunder Railroad is more like a scenic tour than a hair-raising roller coaster ride. The attraction's appeal is recognized in the intricate details and lavish scenery through which the coaster passes as it rumbles along a 2,780-foot track.
The setting seems to depict the nineteenth century American West during the goldrush. Animatronic figures, including everything from panhandlers to donkeys, are scattered throughout the grounds.
