Big Thunder Railroad is more like a scenic tour than a hair-raising roller coaster ride. The attraction's appeal is recognized in the intricate details and lavish scenery through which the coaster passes as it rumbles along a 2,780-foot track.
The setting seems to depict the nineteenth century American West during the goldrush. Animatronic figures, including everything from panhandlers to donkeys, are scattered throughout the grounds. The scene offers an enticing ride through revelries of what it was like to live and mine in the Old West, not to mention that you are still on a roller coaster, even if it isn't snapping your neck every which way.
