The France showcase represents the country between 1870 and 1910, a period known as La Belle Époque, or the beautiful time. This period was somewhat of an artistic Renaissance for the country, a time when a specimen of styles formed the character of Paris boulevards and architecture, as grand exhibitions, inventions, and science was rampant throughout most of the nation.
The France pavilion is comprised of a book shop, reflective of art nouveau; a perfume and designer accessories shop styled after the chateau look of an older Paris; a theater pre-show façade copied from a classical portico; and a post-show interior modeled after Les Halles, the busy garden market of Paris.
Naturally, this Paris offers a sidewalk café and a restaurant, tree-lined streets, and even a one-tenth replica of the Eiffel Tower, which was constructed using Gustave Eiffel's original blueprints.
France is also home to one of the few sit-down theaters in the World Showcase. The Palais du Cinema, inspired by the royal theater at Fontainebleau, presents an intriguing film commemorating significant eras of the country on five screens that span 200 degrees. Highlights of the 18-minute film include Paris on Bastille Day, the Alps, Versailles, Normandy's Mont-St-Michel, and the chateaus of the Loire Valley.
