The Indiana Jones Stunt Spectacular, with its tremendous explosive effects, is one of the best attractions in all of Disney. The blaring theme music may easily draw you in from miles away, and you'll be glad. It's a quality show and shouldn't be missed by any fan of the most famous archeologist in Hollywood, his three films, his whip, and his rugged, dashing looks.
Instead of telling a story like some of the other shows on site, the Stunt Spectacular incorporates the work of incredible attraction coordinator Glenn Randall. Randall's work can be seen in "Jewel of the Nile," as well as in the first two installments of the "Indiana Jones" trilogy. Getting into the theater may seem like a daunting experience, but the theater's crowd capacity is large enough to cut waiting time dramatically. The theater itself is an outdoor pavilion of sorts, and remains comfortable throughout the half-hour performance.
The show starts off with a reenactment of the "Raiders of the Lost Ark" scene in which Indiana pilfers a booby-trapped jewel. The scene is enthralling: a giant boulder threatens to squash the hero, statues attack, and spears spring up from all directions.
Another highlight of the production is the audience participation. Ten lucky participants are chosen to act in a big fight scene in the desert. Dressed in vintage Arabian clothing, the volunteers basically learn how to become scenery, hanging in the back and improvising as ninjas fight and bullwhips crack.
A big part of the show lies in the explanation of the stunts, which is quite interesting and informative. Randall and crew do a fantastic job of detailing the set-up, training, and execution of some pretty dangerous stuff. Indiana Jones and female companion Marian Ravenwood narrowly escape a fiery abyss at the very end of the show, which is easily the most death-defying effect of the performance. If you're a fan of action, near-death experiences, and Indiana Jones, then the Stunt Spectacular should rank extremely high on your list of things to see and do.
