Fronting the World Showcase Lagoon, the Mexico pavilion is dominated by a spectacular Mayan pyramid which represents the country's pre-Columbian heritage. However, the pavilion reflects various periods. For instance, adjacent to the pyramid stands a colonial-style building, reflective of architecture in Central and Southern Mexico.
In addition to the time periods reflected externally, the showcase features a gallery inside which displays an array of artifacts from various eras in Mexico's history. Beyond the gallery, visitors enter a formal portico, modeled after a mayor's mansion, and then a typical colonial plaza, where an evening at the market and a festival atmosphere prevail.
Beyond the plaza is Mexico's main attraction, El Rio del Tiempo. One of the most popular rides in the World Showcase, El Rio del Tiempo takes visitors on a boat ride from the jungles of the Yucatan to modern-day Mexico City. The ride is enhanced by audio-animatronic figures, video images, and dancing puppets.
