Morocco boasts one of the most ornately detailed façades of all the lands at World Showcase. Nineteen native artists were sent to Epcot from the Kingdom of Morocco to create authentic replicas of Moroccan landmarks. Guests will notice the dedication to detail as they pass beneath the pointed arches of the Bab Boujouioud Gate. A gift from the Kingdom of Morocco, the arches are decorated with woodcarvings and intricate mosaics crafted from nine tons of handmade tiles. An interesting note: if one looks closely enough, one will find that each tile has some type of imperfection, and no tile depicts a living creature. That is because only Allah creates perfection and life.
Across a wide promenade, the Koutoubia Minaret (a detailed replica of a famous prayer tower in Marrakesh) towers above the showcase entrance. Beyond this structure is a genuine scene of traditional Morocco, with winding alleyways scattered with colorful carpets, miscellaneous crafts, and leatherwork. Not unlike most Moroccan cities, the showcase is divided into two sections: the Medina (old city) and the Ville Nouvelle (new city). In the Medina, a reproduction of the Chella Minaret in the capital city of Rabat rises above a wide selection of shops. And nearby is the Gallery of Arts and History.
