The first of Disney"s water parks, River Country was opened in the mid seventies. The water park is located on the edge of Bay Lake in Fort Wilderness and is Disney"s version of an old-fashioned swimming hole. It has all the water park standards, including flume rides, water slides and a white water rapid ride. There are also nature trails to be explored and one of the only beaches in Central Florida.

River Country draws its water supply from Bay Lake with the use of a pump and filtration system located inside an artificial mountain. It then distributed the water at about 8,500 gallons per minute. The excess water is then returned to the lake.
