This 16-million-pound geodesic sphere is the architectural symbol of Epcot. This unmistakable sight is 180 feet tall, has a diameter of 164 feet, and is covered by 954 triangular panels.
Inside Spaceship Earth is a tribute to the progress of humankind and the evolution of communication through the ages. You travel through the sphere in small vehicles and examine the 40,000-year evolution of communication in 15 minutes. Sixty-five animatronic figures depict significant milestones in communication from Cro-Magnon Man to the present, with a special section on the future of technology and global communication. All the figures were meticulously researched for historical accuracy; even the hieroglyphics in the Egyptian temple are authentic.
The ride is based on a concept developed by science-fiction writer Ray Bradbury. It is narrated by Jeremy Irons. This is an educational ride that kids almost always appreciate. It's appropriate for all ages, but moments of complete darkness may make some younger passengers nervous.
