The centerpiece of Safari Village, the dramatic 145-foot Tree of Life serves as the majestic icon of Animal Kingdom. The towering manmade edifice looks quite real from afar, but as visitors get close to the banyan-like tree, they find not natural beauty, but rather, more than 325 animal images carved in the trunk and branches. This unusual tapestry of carved figures was assembled by a team of Disney artists. The tree as whole, though not real, symbolizes the connected nature of life on earth.
The Tree of Life is home to one of the best attractions in the Animal Kingdom. Inside its trunk is a 430-seat auditorium featuring the eight-minute animated 3-D film "It's Tough to be a Bug." This 3-D extravaganza also delights visitors with some extra special effects.
