According to legend, Typhoon Lagoon was formed as the result of a cataclysmic hurricane which transformed Placid Palms Resort into vast area of wreckage. Guests can still see signs of the tempest: evidenced by the trees that are impaled by surfboards and the location of Miss Tilly, a shrimp boat that was carried away in the wind only to be found marooned atop Mount Mayday, a geyser-spewing volcano. From this stormy wreckage, the legend continues, residents built Typhoon Lagoon, the self-proclaimed "world's ultimate water park."
The main water attraction is the Typhoon Lagoon Surf Pool - the world's largest wave lagoon - which centers the entire park. There are numerous slides, raft rides, and open places to work on your tan as well. One of the more unusual features is the Shark Reef, a snorkeling experience with sharks that is sponsored by NAUI.
Don't worry about the temperature of the water, special heaters keep it warm throughout the year.
